ICAatCOP28 Week 2 Round-up

We have made it to the end of COP28! As the closing plenary wraps up and the last of our delegation is en route back to Turtle Island, we want to share a quick recap of our work this past week.

ICA kicked off week two with the release of the new report, Indigenous Rights and Sovereignty in International Climate Policy: A Systemic Analysis. The new report highlights the participation of Indigenous peoples in international climate change forums and the failure of state actors to uphold international law within their climate policies. Jayce joined a panel with McGill University on December 8 to speak about the new report. The event can be watched here.

On December 9, ICA launched the first half of the Decolonizing Climate Policy Phase 2 Report. The panel featured a diverse group of Indigenous climate leaders who unpacked the concept of decolonizing climate policy and shared their perspectives on its significance within so-called Canada. To highlight the International Day for Human Rights on December 10, the Indigenous Peoples Caucus hosted a series of events and actions to draw attention to Indigenous rights including Palestinian solidarity and our Missing and Murdered Indigenosu Relatives (MMIR).

The remainder of week two was filled with negotiation tracking, meetings with the Indigenous Peoples Caucus, press conferences, and non-violent direct actions. See a full list with links to recordings below.
