Advisory: Press Conference: Solidarity in Belém; Defending Indigenous Rights & Voices at COP

The International Indigenous Peoples Forum on Climate Change (IIPFCC) will host a press conference on Wednesday to expand on their recent Statement in Solidarity with Local Demonstrations in Belém and ongoing challenges to meaningful Indigenous participation at the so-called “Indigenous Peoples COP.”

The event will include speakers from the seven socio-cultural regions who stand firmly with those who are directly affected by mining, mercury contamination, expanded oil development, deforestation, privatization of waters, financialization and commodification of nature, and the ongoing destruction of the Amazon.
About IIPFCC: The International Indigenous Peoples Forum on Climate Change (IIPFCC) was established in 2008, as the caucus for Indigenous peoples participating in the UNFCCC processes. The IIPFCC represents the caucus members who attend the official UNFCCC COPs and intersessions of the SBSTA/SBI bodies in between COPs. Its mandate is to come into agreement specifically on what IPs will be negotiating for in specific UNFCCC processes.
