Advisory: Panel to Discuss Canada’s Bill C-5 from a Domestic and International Indigenous Perspective during COP30

Indigenous Climate Action (ICA), an Indigenous-led climate justice organization from Turtle Island (Canada), will be hosting a virtual panel during COP30 to discuss Canada’s Bill C-5 and its impacts on Indigenous Peoples, their rights, and their territories both from a domestic and international perspective.

Climate commitments Canada is making within the international context directly contradict domestic policies like Bill C-5. While the government pushes critical minerals and extraction in the name of “Building Canada,” Indigenous rights are being watered down and redwashed under the Indigenous Projects Advisory Committee.
With the next round of Major Projects expected to be announced by Canada just one hour before this event, we expect a powerful conversation on the current state of the Building Canada act and what it means for Indigenous sovereignty, climate policy, and Canada’s commitments within the UNFCCC.
