Ahead of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Coalition Calls on World Leaders toUphold Indigenous Rights and Protect Water

Calgary, Canada — On June 15, as G7 leaders prepare to meet in Kananaskis, a coalition of climate and justice organizations will host a rally at Calgary’s City Hall from 12pm-2pm, to call on governments to confront the climate crisis by upholding Indigenous rights and water security.
Despite Canada’s federal commitment to clean water on Indigenous lands, dozens of communities still live under long-term boil water advisories. Meanwhile, projects like pipelines and mining operations continue to pollute water sources, undermining Indigenous sovereignty, and worsening the climate crisis.
A new petition launched today – with over 2,000 signatures across the globe – urges G7 leaders to stop violating Indigenous sovereignty.
The rally at Calgary’s City Hall will feature Nigel Robinson and Alvin Manitopyes from Keepers of the Water, Nicole Johnson from Piikani Nation, Isa Carlin from Migrante Alberta, and more. There will be a solidarity march with the International League of Peoples Struggles after the rally ends.

Made up of representatives from Piikani Nation, Keepers of the Water, Indigenous Climate Action, Calgary Climate Hub, Justice For Palestine, CUPE, Jubilee, Migrante Alberta, and the International League of Peoples Struggles.
