ICA stands with the Wet'suwet'en to Protect Wedzin Kwa

For the past few weeks our Youth Engagement Lead, Shay Lynn Sampson has been on the frontlines of the Wet’suwet’en Yintah, on Cas Yikh Territory to stand against the Coastal GasLink Pipeline project. The pipeline company continues to clear more and more ground to eventually try to drill under the Wedzin Kwa. This ongoing fight has been happening since 2018. The people are fighting and resisting, and they need your support. It can be from sending supplies, winter boots, wool socks, money, letters of support, to actually going to the camp. They need feet on the ground.

For thousands of years, the Wet’suwet’en have been feeding off the salmon that run through their traditional territory. If this project were to go through, the impact on the natural ecosystem would be devastating. The presence of the salmon in rivers shows us that it is still healthy and about 137 wildlife species depend on the nutrients that they provide. They are a reliable and important source of protein. Since they swim from the ocean all the way to headwaters, without them, forests and rivers would be lacking an important source of nitrogen from the sea that helps forest growth.
We already have too much fossil infrastructure to stop global warming from increasing every year and the need to shut down even more is imminent. We cannot afford to let them build another fossil fuel pipeline on the Indigenous sacred land.
Indigenous Climate Action supports the sovereign rights of the Wet'suwet'en to protect their sacred lands and waters.
