Winter 2021 Updates

Thank you for your continued support for Indigenous-led climate justice!

When we connect with our ancestors and put their wisdom into action, we are evolving our collective consciousness. We are transporting the ancient truths of our collective past and birthing them into our future. What we create out of those truths extends the wisdom of all those who have gone before us, and it provides a guide for all those who will follow.

Job Opening

Know someone who has done work in the renewable energy sector? We’re still looking for a Just Transition Lead to nurture Indigenous energy sovereignty with communities across the country.

Resources

The Indigenous Climate Action Toolkit is getting closer to completion! Over the next few months we’ll be facilitating a test-run of the Toolkit with Indigenous youth and running a train-the-trainer pilot cohort.

Melina has been working on finalizing the Just Transition Guide, which will act as the first foundational document of ICA’s budding energy sovereignty program. This year we’ll also be continuing to partner with Sacred Earth Solar to help build out solar energy with Gidimt’en of the Wet’suwet’en Nation and Onaman Collective.

Research

We’ll soon be releasing a critical analysis report on the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change. This was a collaborative project between ICA and researchers Dr. Jen Gobby and Rebecca Sinclair. From this report, we will be building out an Indigenous Advisory Council to inform our research on recommendations for Indigenous climate policy. We’ve also brought on Indigenous researcher Ruston Fellows, who is coordinating a collaboration between ICA and CANSEE for an Indigenous Economics Assembly.

Communications

We collaborated with Keepers of the Water, Indigenous Knowledge & Wisdom Centre and Kâniyâsihk Culture Camps to host two webinars: bear teachings and moose teachings. We also profiled the recipients of our first Sovereignty in Action awards, supporting 10 Indigenous-led groups across so-called Canada with $2,500 grants. Check out the great work they’re doing!

ICA Store

Don’t forget that we’ve got the ICA store! Check it out to get some ICA swag.

Hiy hiy/miigwetch/mussi cho/yakookay/thank you for your continued support of ICA!
