Michelle Yanes

Climate Curriculum Developer

Michelle (she/her) is an Indigenous Latina educator, researcher, and community worker whose work is rooted in climate justice, early childhood, and community well-being. Her identity as an Indigenous Latina woman of colour shapes her commitment to supporting young children and families, particularly those navigating inequities within education and environmental systems.

Michelle has a background in research, program development, and policy design, and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications focused on curriculum, community-informed programming, and equity-centered approaches.

She is currently completing her PhD, where her research explores climate justice education for young children of colour in the Canadian context through critical autoethnography. She also serves as a researcher with Finding Our Power Together (FOPT), an Indigenous-led organization focusing on holistic well-being, mental health and early childhood.

When she’s not working, Michelle is outside with her daughter and her dog, usually hiking, gardening, swimming and playing. She enjoys making good food and sharing it with good people.
