Veronica Fuentes

International Climate Justice Arts & Action Coordinator

Veronica Fuentes (She/her) is Saulteaux (Anishinaabe), and Second Generation Salvadoran. Veronica’s family comes from Yellowquill First Nation, Treaty 4.  Veronica is born, raised and based out of Edmonton, Alberta.

Veronica is wrapping up her Bachelor of Arts in Native Studies at the University of Alberta, but has spent more of her time as a grassroots organizer in Treaty 6. Veronica is a community advocate, artist and helper with most of her experience being in the areas of harm reduction, urban Indigenous house-lessness, and intersectional climate justice advocacy.

Since 2019, Veronica has been a trainer with Indigenous Peoples Power Project where she has developed a passion for skill sharing and building power within communities on the frontlines. Most important to Veronica is navigating the intersections of where harm reduction, mutual aid and direct action fit into climate justice and our collective pursuits of land stewardship. 

Veronica has spent years restoring her families’ displaced relationship to traditional art, ceremony, storytelling and kinship from both north, to south - which has all helped orientate how she advocates for her communities. Veronica believes that Indigenous peoples have a lot to teach the world about living a way of life we all deserve. In her free time, Veronica can be found stirring up creative resistance projects, textile and regalia crafting, printmaking, and spending time with her friends and family.
